To support a regular meditation practice, most of us need the company of others to both sit together in meditation, and to talk about living from a ‘dharma’ perspective. Salt Spring Insight Meditation offers an opportunity for weekly practice. There is no charge for attending, although contributions are gratefully accepted to cover rental of the facilities.
7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Through the winter 6 months, from November through and including April, we will meet at The Gatehouse, Stowel Lake Farm, 190 Reynolds Road.
For the summer 6 months, from May through the end of October, we will meet at St. Mary’s Church, Fulford (little brown church opposite Fulford Hall). The Anglican Church is making this sweet church available as a spiritual centre – called ‘Star of the Sea’, inviting people from various spiritual practices and traditions to enjoy the use of it.
There are comfy chairs, and a wooden floor: bring anything else you might want to meditate – cushions, blankets etc.
We practice for a 45 minute period of silent meditation, often with some instruction. Our understanding of the dharma, and aspects of our practice are then explored, either in the form of a dharma talk, questions and answers and/or discussion, often in small groups. As well as helping our inner growth, we make connections with others, and learn from one another.
The group is led by local teacher Heather Martin, or by one of our sangha members when Heather is away.
Every two months we socialize, drink tea and eat cookies. When the Moon is Full, we follow this with an extended evening of sitting and walking meditation until midnight – stay as long as you like. See Notice Board for upcoming dates.
